Welcome to Mossworld

As seen on the 'Welcome to Mossworld' pamphlet in the Tourism center, west of the great fountain of Mosgaard.

“Welcome to Mossworld.” Ahh, adventure. But it may perhaps not feel so welcome to the new. There's nothing wrong with that, we are here to help you get started.

What class is the best?

The first thing to understand is what class you play and what the newbie item means. From a practical perspective, fighters are the most capable at combat; woodsmen are secondary combat classes but are more like explorers, and can sometimes find ways around obstacles that fighters cannot. They can move more quickly and level faster, but the downside is, that's your playstyle. You don't smash 'em up as much as a fighter does. Wizards? They don't fight. Most of a Wizard's job is finding a magical way to do something. Yes, a wizard can use a sword – no, it can't be magic, because it interferes with their craft. The best weapon for a wizard is usually one of wizzy's magic wands, which tend to work well for spells – but not for combat! Finally there is the adventurer who is your famous explorer type. A little of this, a little of that. Some heroic advantages, paid for by the need to actually use them and explore the world just a bit more than others to keep pace. For an adventurer, wanderlust pays off.

What Gift Item should I choose?

Everyone can choose a gift item when they start. The camping knife, torch, and magic key are all for quests in and around Mosgaard and truly make some parts of those quest much faster. However, for a new player the seed money is going to be the most useful. If you don't know why you might want one of the other items– take the money.

What do to first?

You will start out at the fountain. Until level 10, type recall to go back there any time except in a fight. If you're in combat, flee first.

First go east and see if there's anything in the donation room. No? go west, south. You're in market square. You might want to type sethome here. That means you can go back by typing home. Home is like recall but you can set it. Up until level 10 only.

From here, explore the shops on the north side of main street. Silas is the adventurer trainer, Ellie for woodsmen and Gorin for fighters. If you choose wizard, good luck, you should know where Wizzy is already! But for the record, he's two stops down from market square.

After you decide which skills to train, you have several choices. The fastest and easiest at this point is to visit Ellie's shop (e, n from market square). Here you can buy basic weapons and armor. But don't think this is the only legitimate way to get started. If you're interested in grinding, you could come up with a way to work for it. Up to you. In any case, don't forget to wield weapons and wear your armor. If you have a torch, you can light it and hold it.

Next, visit Masie's (s, e, s from Ellie's) and buy some food and water. You don't need much, but as long as you have food and water, your health, movement and mana will slowly regen over time. Beyond that, there are ways to heal faster that you will discover as you play.

Finally, your first quest. From market square go 2 west and north. This is the Adventurer's guild. Look at the quest board. You can take a quest, which is free – but the quality of free quests can be dubious. To get a better quest, type 'insert copper', and you will get a copper quest. These are quests that are intended for levels 1 to 10. If the quest gives you some advice, remember it. If it contains instructions, remember them and do them, and you might just find out adventure on the open road!

That's it! Have fun storming the castle!
